Latest source code updates

The published RISC OS source code has been updated with the following changes:

The Wimp has had some bug fixes and has new enhancements which will allow better themes for the desktop (Fred Graute)

A new version of Alarm has a number of improvements to its windows which make it easier to use (James Lampard)

The DebugLib library now has new facilities for directing your debug output to SysLog or to Reporter.

The official Acorn Clipboard module has been finished! This fully implements the Clipboard protocol and includes some new test programs, notably PutClip and GetClip (Fred Graute).

Some interesting background information about the clipboard module (from Fred himself) will be published on our wiki.

PCL printer dumper source code

RISC OS Open are pleased to announce the availablility of a new printer dumper for RISC OS. PDumperPCL has been contributed by Herbert zur Nedden and based upon PDumperLJ, this is a dumper designed for PCL printers that support duplex printing, such as the Canon i-Sensys MF4690PL.

At the moment, this is a source code only release, with the source code living in the repository at:

castle/RiscOS/Sources/Printing/PDumpers/PDumperPCL

See the PDumperPCL/!Info file for full details. It should be treated as beta quality code for the time being. The PrintDefs component has also been updated to include a new printer definition file for the printer listed above.

An updated release of !Printers will be made available soon with this new dumper included.

Thanks,

The RISC OS Open team.

New tool to aid RISCOS Ltd and Castle RISC OS development

As a part of the joint co-operation between RISC OS Open and RISCOS Ltd, we are please to announce the availability of a tool which we hope will help to make life a little bit easier for developers. It is aimed at gathering some specific statistics from a wide range of RISC OS users in order for us to better identify where the main problem areas lie with respect to the differences between the RISCOS Ltd RISC OS branch and the Castle Technology RISC OS branch.

RISCOS Ltd / RISC OS Open Ltd Joint Press Release

Right back to the days of Acorn, there have been two distinct strands of RISC OS development. These two strands were developed to exploit different markets and hardware platforms. The Castle Technology strand is used in a number of products, including the IYONIX PC and various set top boxes. The RISCOS Ltd strand is also used in a number of different products, including the A9Home, the VirtualAcorn range of software emulators and as upgrades to existing Acorn computers via the RISC OS Select scheme.

Sources to both strands are available free of charge to developers. One strand is gradually being published under the Castle Technology Shared Source initiative by RISC OS Open Ltd. The RISCOS Ltd strand is available to Registered Developers and Hardware Manufacturers under NDA or as part of the Authorised Manufacturer Scheme, for both commercial and non-commercial exploitation.

Today, RISC OS Open (ROOL) and RISCOS Ltd (ROL) are pleased to announce an agreement to enable co-operation in the development of these two strands of RISC OS.
